Top Tips for Growing your Business

We could all use a few top tips every now and again. And when it comes to small business, where better to go than one of Britain’s most famous, and most successful, entrepreneurs? If you’re looking to grow your business, it’s worth paying attention to what the likes of Richard Branson have to say on the subject.

Richard Branson says:

1) Know your mission

No matter what type of business you are, you’ll have a mission in mind. That might be to provide the best customer service, the best products or something more specialised – whatever it is, you need to be clear on what you want to achieve in your business so you can get organised and really go after it.

2) Sort out your infrastructure

One of the big problems for SMEs looking to grow into larger businesses is the lack of defined structure in their management. Yes, you might be able to cope managing your company when you’ve got four or five employees, but how about when you’ve got fifty or one hundred? Build strong relationships and foster the foundations of good infrastructure so you know how to delegate when the time comes.

3) Make the tough decisions

You need the right team running your business. Though it’s always a tough decision, letting go of senior managers who can’t take the business forward as it grows will keep your company developing – as painful as this may be.

4) Have a sense of purpose

This will make sure both you and your staff know what you’re working for, and you’ll be able to gauge if you’re achieving it. Find a simple but effective message that’s easy to communicate – this will work well when you really start to size up.

5) Details matter

Not only to your customers, but to your staff as well. Creating a working environment where you look at the little things will make sure you’re taking pride in your work, and passing this sense onto your customers.

So, if you’ve got the cash flow to start growing your business, make sure to think about all the foundations you need to lay before it’s too late.
